We’re riding the wave from yesterday’s keynote/all-school assembly at Polson High on the Flathead Indian Reservation. The campus of the mighty Pirates is sublime, overlooking the south shores of Flathead Lake. On the land of the Salish, Pend d’orielle and Kootenai tribes, in a packed auditorium it went down yesterday. It was so special having Kamiah with me for this one. Living in homogenous Bozeman, Montana, I loved having her on a campus with ethnic and cultural diversity. She was so proud and hyped and just loved the response we received from the students. I told these kids I’d bring a a fiery passion, vibrancy and enthusiasm, and that I’m like a solar panel, feeding off their energy—and they gave it right back to me yesterday.
I prepared hard for this one (knowing a 9 am, Monday morning, all school assembly could be a steep ask) and my flow, pace and rhythm was just where I needed it to be to keep 500 high schoolers on board for fifty three minutes. Sometimes we knock em out of the park and sometimes we leave something on stage, but thanks to a lot of practice and preparation, K-bear, and a combination of sacred lands (and waters) and a beautiful people, this one was a home-run.
It was a long and action packed day, speaking to five other classes for Career Connection Day after my keynote. It’s always fun to get into ‘King of Wing’ mode when connecting with teenagers. So grateful to be able to share experiences like this with Kamiah and humbled and grateful to be able to inspire and uplift these teens.
There’s little that makes me feel more alive then being on stage, connecting with an audience of young people. It makes me feel so alive. I felt like J beeb out there yesterday, light on the feet, rocking those all white ultra boosts with an extra pep and bounce in my step. ✨🎤🔥🙏🏽☀️.
There’s always a bit of a morning after let down (a little air deflation after the performance), but we’re still riding that Polson Pirate wave.
